Professor Johnson N. Gwaikolo is the fourth president of the United Methodist University.  Prof. Gwaikolo earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Accounting) in 1984 and Master of Arts in organizational leadership in 2005, both from Augsburg College, Minneapolis Minnesota.  He is enrolled in the Doctorate of Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership Program at Creighton University, Nebraska, USA.


Professor Johnson N. Gwaikolo is the fourth president of the United Methodist University.  Prof. Gwaikolo earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Accounting) in 1984 and Master of Arts in organizational leadership in 2005, both from Augsburg College, Minneapolis Minnesota.  He is enrolled in the Doctorate of Education in Interdisciplinary Leadership Program at Creighton University, Nebraska, USA.

 Prof. Gwaikolo’s service with the United Methodist University started in 2005 when he was appointed Vice President for Business and Finance, responsible to provide financial policy direction for the University; he also supervised the operational activities of the Business Office.  He served in this position for two years when he was invited to join the Government of Liberia as Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  While in Government, Prof. Gwaikolo was appointed to the Board of Directors of the University where he served as Treasurer of the Board.  When Prof. Gwaikolo resigned from government in 2011, he returned to the University as Vice President for Business and Finance, the position he occupied until September 1, 2015 when he was appointed Interim President of the University.

Prof. Gwaikolo has wide range of experience in management and administration in the public sector as well as in the private sector.  He worked with ServiceMaster, Incorporated in Minneapolis, Minnesota as Operations Manager (1984 – 1990).  He also worked for several years as senior administrator in many agencies of the Government of Liberia.  Those include Deputy Minister of Finance when he reorganized the revenue collectorates outside of Monrovia (1995 – 1997); Foreign Affairs (1997 - 1999; 2007 – 2009); Labor (2000 – 2003); and Public Works (2009 – 2011).  He also worked briefly in 2000 as Executive Director of the National Investment Commission.  Earlier, he was member of the Interim Legislative Assembly (1991 – 1995) where he was Head of Delegation to several Inter-Parliamentary Union Conferences including Santiago, Denmark, France, Cameroon and Sweden, to articulate the legislative agenda of the Liberian government.

Prof. Gwaikolo has been an adjunct professor at the Cuttington University Graduate Program since 2010 and at the University of Liberia Graduate School since 2013.  He is also a member of the Board of Directors of AcelorMittal, a multinational mining and steel company operating in Liberia.
