On behalf of the Board of Directors of the United Methodist University, let me welcome you to our University.
The United Methodist University was chartered in 1999 and we opened the doors of the University in 2000 with an enrollment of 203 students transferred from the College of West Africa Junior College Program of Business.
Today, the University is the fastest growing private faith based institution of higher education with an approximate enrollment of 5000 students. The United Methodist University has seven colleges across four campuses (Monrovia, Gbarnga, Ganta, and Gbazon Town, Sinoe) in Liberia.
The United Methodist Church in Liberia has been a leader in providing quality education since the arrival of American Missionary Melville Cox in 1833, and with the establishment of the College of West Africa in 1839. We want to continue our education tradition of excellence.
The United Methodist University continues to work to improve the delivery of teaching and learning. But, in order for us to provide the appropriate conducive learning environment in this 21st century, the Board of Directors, under my leadership approved the construction of a new campus on 52 -acres of land on the Roberts International Airport.
We have begun the capital campaign to ensure the construction of the new campus to provide first class 21st century learning environment and opportunities for our students, faculty, and staff. The capital campaign is in four phases and is for the period of 10 years.
My dear brother and sisters in Christ, let me thank all of our many supporters and Friends of the University, and those of you who will be a part of helping us to improve and build the United Methodist University. May the Almighty God bless you and your family.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dr. John G. Innis
Resident Bishop, Liberia Annual Conference/United Methodist Church
